Song Meanings Change With The Era

Songs change over time. Content wise. For example, the meaning of chants in the 1600's refers to a death ceremony. Of course, the most popular artists of today do not chant about death.
Songs of today range in a variety of things. A very large amount of the songs sung on the radio today refer to sex, have sexual content, or refer to sexual teasing, and we usually don't realize it. You might have if you are the type of person that listens to the song carefully, but if you're like most people, and like me, you usually don't pay too much attention to the content.
Sorry, off topic...
Songs today are some of the best songs that have been created of all time, but have some of the worst content of all time as well. I'm not slamming all of the songs out there. Most of Paramore's, and all of Flyleaf's songs are pure, clean fun. Pop is the most popular type of music, which is pretty obvious, since Pop is short for Popular. Alternative is like Pop, and is pretty popular too. I've already told you what the songs were about.
In the 90's, music wasn't like it was today. Songs weren't as bad, but some were. This is when Hilary Duff was popular. Preppy songs came into play here, and bouncy lyrics to the song that I can't think of the title right now, say things like, “I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want!” These songs were usually sung very fast, and in a preppy tone. Rock 'n Roll was very infamous during the 90's. Hey, thats a little strange, since the most popular music in the previous music era was Rock.
80's are, in my opinion, the worst songs that I have ever heard. I hate this time period. Rock 'n Roll was very popular during this time. Heavy Metal was being created. Artists like Bon Jovi, The Eurythics, and Queen were the triumphant artists of this age. Pop was Rock music, since it was the most popular music of this era.
The 70's was all about Disco. Disco, disco, disco. Thats all I really have to say.
The 60's and downward to the 40's was usually country music.
Thats all!
